What Is History, Really?

Is history just a snapshot of our past? Is it story-telling and meaning-making based on the interpretations at the time by evolving hearts and minds?

There are facts – told or written. And behind the facts are the endless questions about intentions, lessons, and conclusions. We have the five senses, with light and sound – and we participate in it all. We take pictures and see a patchwork of Life unfolding. We create word constructs to wrap our heads around the meaning of our lives. This kind of history is important, but incomplete….

The current practice of writing down, photographing, and “printing” sequences of events and their interpretations from various perspectives are only shadows of the more vast and pervasive process of true History that is continually taking place. This process is nothing short of our Being a part of a dynamic and reconfiguring Cosmos – complete and untouched by the analytical mind. Analysis without intuition reduces insight, just like making a picture thumbnail reduces its resolution.

The holographic-universe analogy, which suggests that every part contains the whole, is useful. In case of holograms, when you take the picture – it doesn’t look like the object at all.

You need to shine a laser at the film to see the object’s hologram! This is a great article on how holograms are made and includes the above image – a hologram looks like a bunch of overlapping rings until you shine a laser through it to see the 3D object. Also, here is a cool WikiHow article on how to make your own hologram and see it.

If you were to cut a hologram and project laser light through each piece, you still see the whole object – just dimmer….

But this analogy for modeling our Universe eventually fails because physical holograms cannot be broken down indefinitely into smaller pieces and keep the whole picture intact – what is the smallest physical piece of the film that still captures the whole? Physical reality sets definite limits.

The real Universe as Consciousness is not limited by space and time. Our very Being is that complete record of Life flow, from unity to differentiation, and back to unity. This is true History that can be “read” when illuminated by the Light of Consciousness. We are Living Libraries with full access to the Whole. How can anyone know this? Only through direct experience.

Simply put, the Life process is a living record – an arrangement that constantly moves and evolves. Life does not come with a “book” because it is a book being written by All.

My question is – so what? Is it even useful to consider the Living Stream as a record when its very nature is never static? Is it valuable to feel reality unfolding as if spontaneously reading the entire Universe like a book? The answer is a resounding “Yes” because then you realize History is just fully conscious Living that cannot be reduced to words on pages. And the meaning of it All is natural.

The Akashik Records – a shadow of the Whole – do provide some Historic awareness and are claimed to be easily accessible and readable by anyone – a library of “answers.” Some say that anyone could ask any question and get an answer. This is true, but the information obtained depends on the person. Many claim to read the Universe, but if that  information is not obtained by Living as the Whole, it is colored by perception, interpretation, and imagination to varying degrees.

Imagine if Akashik Records were fully accessible to all people – consider the impact on our world! Imagine accessing all knowing by every Soul, which would birth  profound empathy like wildfire across the human race. We would understand All and relate to All with compassion. We would stop our endless bickering and develop a shared understanding of how things really are, while celebrating uniqueness. We would stop criticizing, separating, and reinventing the wheel. This is not yet our Reality.

Human actions are highly repetitive, and history – as we call it – repeats itself (even in the way it is constantly rewritten by people to fit specific agendas). We must recognize, on some level, that our history is not truth – it is only a bunch of strewn together points of view, made popular by the preponderant forces of a specific time. We do not agree on what constitutes “mistakes,” so how can we learn from mistakes collectively? We can strive to be true Historians by developing our awareness to the point of embodying the Life process.

As an aside, it is not possible to build a time machine to go to the “past” because the entire universe reconfigures from one state to the next – and is just present. There is no “matter” to go back to. There are not copies of the universe made from moment to moment. Nevertheless, some people are able to follow the trails and imprints via sensitive intuition to reconstruct evolution. They may not be able to fully communicate that knowledge because much is beyond our everyday experience and words, or concepts. There are also faint trails forming of the future, much like airplane runways – possibilities – some more likely than others.

History is Alive as us, and becoming more so as we are more conscious of being the Whole. We are a Universe of Universes within Universes, and this knowledge can be grasped in a flash of intuition from moment to moment. Instant recognition is not only possible, it is an eventuality of our potential.
